Our story

The Story Behind
Nomad Küche

Nomad Küche is rooted in my family story - a story of migration, resilience and keeping culture alive through food.

My grandparents were Uyghur and came to Kyrgyzstan from China during a time when many Uyghur families were resettling and rebuilding their lives in Central Asia. In a new place, food became one of the strongest ways to preserve memory, language, hospitality and identity.

My grandfather started his path at the Green Bazaar, and later opened a café together with my grandmother, who supported him and carried the same deep love for cooking. Their kitchen became more than a place to prepare food - it became a place where culture was shared, protected and passed on.

Nomad Küche continues this feeling in Vienna: through handmade dishes, warm tea, stories and shared tables that bring people closer to Central Asian culture.

"In my family, food was never just food. It was memory, care and a way to feel at home."

Central Asian food is a ritual - from the first ingredients to the final shared dish, from warm tea to stories around the table. At Nomad Küche, we invite you into that feeling.

The Founder

Nargiza

For me, food has never been only about filling the body with energy. It is something warm, alive and deeply connected to memory. It can carry culture across thousands of kilometres — through flavours, stories and the way people gather around the table.

When I travel, I usually start with food: local markets, bazaars, small cafés and conversations with people who cook or sell what they grew up with. I love seeing what people buy, how they cook, what they eat every day and what they proudly share with guests. For me, food is one of the most honest ways to understand a country, its people and their way of life.

Coming from Central Asia, I also see how our food reflects our history. Many traditional dishes were shaped by a nomadic lifestyle — nourishing, rich and built around what people needed to survive, move and gather. But food is never frozen in time. It can evolve with us, with new places, new ideas and new ways of living.

With Nomad Küche, I want to share a modern vision of Central Asian cuisine: one that remembers its roots, but is not afraid to transform. I want to keep the warmth, hospitality and soul of our food, while exploring new ways to cook, serve and experience it.

This is not about eating. It is about discovering culture through cooking.
